Math + Reading = Success

 

This page was created as a part of a Computer Based Honors Project at The University of Alabama.

Stacy Leigh Hughey, a student majoring in Elementary & Early Childhood Education, with a minor in CBH, and Instructor Amy Massey Vessel, College of Education, The University of Alabama, joined together in a partnership to address NCTM’s standard number two.

The National Council for Teachers of Mathematics , or NCTM’s, Curriculum and Evaluation Standards guide states in standard number two that "Mathematics can be thought of as a language that must be meaningful if students are to communicate mathematically and apply mathematics productively. Reading children's literature about mathematics…is an important aspect of communication that needs more emphasis in the curriculum."
