POWER POINT ASSIGNMENT

OBJECTIVE: Making the advanced Power Point presentation and uploading it to the Net

BACKGROUND

Satisfactory performance in BCT 300 or its transfer equivalent) is a pre-requisite for enrolling in BCT 400. This means that all of you have completed basic, introductory activities with POWER POINT in your 300 class. If you aren't sure of your skills, go to http://www.bamaed.ua.edu/bct300/ppt_tu~1.htm and revisit the introductory tutorial included in that course site.

For this course, you are expected to demonstrate more advanced applications of POWER POINT, including the use of sound, and video segments embedded in your presentations. Once completed you will upload your PPT (powerpoint file) to the Internet. You can use the digital cameras suggested for purchase, check out these digital camera links, and see a workshop from Westlawn Middle School, too, if you want.

Before beginning this assignment, you need to do the tutorial for this more advanced use of POWER POINT, included on this course site under POWER POINT Tutorial. Further, POWER POINT itself provides a HELP function that is useful in learning these skills.

You will also find some excellent resources on POWERPOINT by going to this page http://www.emTech.net and finding POWERPOINT on the listing of resources. It contains other tutorials, resources, tips, and ideas that will help you prepare your advanced PPT for this course. You can also continue to use this page as a resource when you hit the "real world"!

YOU CAN ALSO SEE EXAMPLES DONE BY OTHER STUDENTS BY GOING TO THE SAMPLES PAGE

Part 2: Make the Advanced Power Point with Specific Features

Check the grading criteria to be sure you have all of the features included that are associated with an advanced presentation, but here are some new features in the new PPT:

Part 3: Putting Your Advanced PowerPoint up on the Internet

Once you have completed your PPT, you are going to put it on the Internet. You will upload your PowerPoint (PPT) file to the Internet so that anyone who logs into the site can see the Power Point presentation. Here's an example of how it will look.

http://www.emTech.net/links/tprationale/index.html

Here are some other examples of how your PPT will look once uploaded to the Internet:

http://www.emTech.net/ceesa99.htm Click on the sessions from this workshop and you will see PPTs.
http://www.emTech.net/MAISDirectors'Morocco.htm Click on the sessions to see PPTs.

Here's the TUTORIAL on putting your PPT on the NET on bamaed. When you finish, your PPT file will be on the net like the ones above PLUS it will have a button or link so that someone can download or see it as it is in its original PPT format. Here are some samples that will help you understand the two formats.

BE SURE TO CHECK THE GRADING CRITERIA FOR THIS PROJECT TO UNDERSTAND PRECISELY WHAT MUST BE INCLUDED.

The product must also include content features, meaning that your content covered in your PPT must "fit" with your topic, make sense, contribute to the overall project and, most importantly, actually convey some type of information relevant to your topic. There has to be some "meat" to the project, not just "fluff". This is a central part of the grading as is "looks professional".

  • You will then SEND AN EMAIL to your assignment mailbox:
  • goals400@bamaed.ua.edu

  • In the BODY of the email include:
    • Your name, Social Security Number, Section number and Semester
    • The URL for where you have uploaded your Power Point Assignment
If you need any assistance or clarification, see or send an email to your professor.

UPLOADING POWER POINT TO THE NET

There are two main things you need to do in order to upload a Power Point presentaion to the net.

  1. First, you need to save the presentation as an HTML. Power Point 97 and 2000 have this feature. NOTE: When you save as HTML, you need to make sure to include a "download presentaion" link in the HTML format. This is to make sure that the PPT format is also accessible. There is place to do this in the wizard you follow to save as HTML.
  2. Second, you need to upload the .ppt file and ALL the files created by the "Save as HTML" wizard. You also need to upload any sound and video files that you used in your presentation.
Click here: Uploading Power Point to the Net, and you will find a tutorial on how to save and an HTML.

Click here: Upload, if you need a reminder on how to upload.
