INSERTING MOVIES (.avi) AND SOUND (.wav and .midi) into .html Products

You can make your own .wav files or find existing .wav files, .midi files, and .avi files, and use them in your homepage and other .html products.

When you are in the .html document where you want to insert the movies or sound, you have to have an icon or text to which you will link the sound or movie.

Link from Icons or Objects

Here's an example. Let's say that I want to play a piece of a song that reflects something of my philosophy of life and how I was enjoying the passage of time on a safari in Africa. I can put in my picture as an icon for the link.

PS: If you want to know where in Africa, send me an email! I love to tell about it! You gotta love the hat!

Another Example of Linking Sound (or Movies) to an Object or Icon:

Let's say I want you to know something about the kind of food I like to eat. I could put in the following icon, copied from the net, and link my musical explanation to the icon. Click on the peppers and see what I mean.

Link from Text

Let's say I want to let you know how I wish I sounded when I played my piano. I can link it to text, such as Here's How I Wish I Sounded When I Play the Piano. Another example might be what my daughter sent me in an email. She wrote About Math, Mom. I might mention that she suffered through and is an engineer (major in biomedical engineering with a minor in mechanical engineering! You don't have to link math!).

How to Insert

Obviously, the first thing you have to do is have your movie or sound file saved into the same directory of your product. So move all of those that you are going to use into the directory of your product. Ideally, too, you have them saved by names you will recognize when you get ready to insert them!

Once I decide if I am going to link from text or an object/icon, the next thing is to insert that icon or object or type in the text. Then, I click on the object, icon or highlight the text I want to use as the link source.

Then I go to  and click. I get the following screen.

Next I would input the link location (HINT: Have your .wav file in the same directory with your product; otherwise, the program may not be able to find it later when you upload). You are going to select Choose File so you can find the file you want to use.

I am looking for The Secret of Life; that's the sound file I want to use. See the file name and icon? It looks like this: . So I will select it and click OPEN. HINT: Don't panic if you don't immediately see the file you want. NOTICE AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT SCREEN: Files of Type: _______. Sometimes it will default to .html files, so your .wav file will not show. Just change to .wav or all files. It will be there if you have saved it in that directory.

When I click on the file I want, it automatically links it to your icon, object or text. To make sure, do the usual SAVE then PREVIEW to see how it works.

Now you know how to link movies and sound in .html files. Easy, huh? But ... if you have trouble, send an email to me (Dr. Price) or to your GTA.
