  4. You can check your email from any Web Browser by going to: http://bamamail.ua.edu
  5. This email program allows you to attach files (class assignments).
  6. Bama Email is the University System Wide email account for all students. BamaEd email is for the College of Education only!

You can find a tutorial on using Bama Mail by going to the TUTORIALS page for the technology program.

Setting your Bama Account so you can FTP (upload files)

By defualt, your Bama account is set up so you can check email, but you do not have FTP access to your account yet. What you need to do is to change your Bama account shell for FTP access which will let you check email as well as have FTP acces to be able to upload.

To change your shell, you need to be at a University of Alabama computer. Computers outside the University will not give you access. Then follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer).
  2. Go to http://bama.ua.edu.
  3. Then click on bama account helpers.
  4. Then click on Change your Unix shell (i.e. remote, ftp-only, ksh, bash, etc).
  5. Write your username and password in the appropriate boxes.
  6. Make sure the "FTP only" is selected.
  7. Click on the "Change Shell" button.
  8. You should get a screen that says that your Account shell has been changed.
  9. Now you are able to use any FTP program to upload your webpages to your Bama account.

Your Bama Account is getting Full

Whenever you Bama account starts sending a message that it is getting full, that you are running out of space, or some message of that sort, you need to clear up some space so you can keep adding your information into your account. One of the things that occupy a lot of space and many times you don't realize is you email messages. It is a wise idea to save important messages that you might use later on. However, not all messages are important. So make it a habit to delete what you don't need, especially those emails that carry attachments. These can use space and you are unaware of that.
