I. General Saving
Tips
- Save early, save often, and use two to
three forms of backups.
- When saving HTML documents, use filenames
that have 8 characters or less, no spaces, and all lower case letters.
- Do not keep your
files stored on multiple floppy disks. Use a CD-RW and backup
your files to either another CD-RW or a zip disk. Remember that
your public folder on the server is another source of backup.
- Create folders to keep your various files
organized. The easiest way to create a folder is to choose My
Computer on your desktop, open the drive where you want to make
folders (i.e. D or E) and then choose file, new, folder.
Name your folder.

II. Bama Server Space
Saving Tips
-
Don't forget to remove all
unnecessary files from your public folder. This could include .ppt
files or images that you no longer need. To remove a folder from
the server using FTP, double-click on the folder that you want to
remove. Then delete all the files inside that folder. Now
you can go back up a level and delete the folder itself.
-
Make sure your images are
JPEG's (.jpg) or GIF's (.gif) as opposed to Bitmap's (.bmp).
Bitmap's are considerably larger files on average.
-
Clean out your email
regularly. These emails take up your space on the Bama Server.
This is particularly a problem when you have emails containing images
or attachments because these are usually large files.
-
You can check your disk
quota at

V. General Electronic
Portfolio Tips
-
Be sure not to use
copyrighted images without obtaining permission.
-
The
photos of your students that are posted on your website, should not
include recognizable shots of the students faces.
-
Don't include personal
information, such as your home address or phone number, in your website.
Students typically run into this problem when posting their résumé
online. Be sure to delete any personal information from your résumé
before sending it over to the server.
-
Make sure that you send
over all of the photos that you want to show up on your website to
your public folder as well. If you don't, then they will not show
up on your site.
