Capture with Windows Movie Maker
Once the Camera is connected to the firewire port, open Microsoft Movie
Maker. To open the Video Capture wizard, go to file > Capture video.
Window 1:
Enter what you want to name your video in the first box,
and where you want your video to be located on your computer.
Window 2:
For the highest resolution, "Digital device format (DV-AVI)"
should be selected. When video is captured with this setting, each minute
of video will take up 178MB of space. If space is an issue, change the
option shown here to "Best quality for playback on my computer".
This will take up less space, but your video will not be as high quality.
Window 3:
Now it's time to capture the video. You can use the DV camera controls
to position your tape to the proper starting point. Click on "Start
Capture" to begin capturing, "Stop Capture" to stop. If
the option "Create clips when wizard finishes" is selected,
the video you capture will be automatically divided into seperate "clips"
based on time jumps and scene changes. This is useful in editing later.
When your capturing is complete, click on finish to close the capture
wizard.
